Penny Obee

Penny Obee was the founding Chair and driving force behind the establishment of the Minden150 cycling event. Tragically on March 14, 2011, Penny drowned at Playa Bejuco in Costa Rica.

Penny’s enthusiasm and dedication led to the inaugural ride in 2009 attracting over 180 cyclists. One of Penny’s major accomplishments for the ride in 2010 was the implementation of her dream of attracting more family participation open to all ages.  It was a major success and introduced many new family members to the joy of cycling.

This year’s family ride has been named Penny’s Ride in her honour.  All proceeds from the ride will be donated to the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School Scholarship Fund. The Penny Obee Memorial Scholarship has been established at the school where Penny started as Vice-Principal in 1996, before being assigned as Principal of the Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in 1998. Penny played an important part in the lives of many young people.

Thank you Penny!
